Avalon and On

It was the best of halls, it was the worst of halls. This grand old Spanish Colonial-style theater has been through many incarnations since its opening in 1927, beginning life as the Hollywood Playhouse, one of four major legitimate theaters built in the heyday of Tinseltown’s vaudeville era. In 1942 it was renamed the El Capitan (when the original El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard was renamed the Paramount), and converted to a radio studio theater, hosting such immortal broadcast fare as Ken Murray’s “Blackouts.”

This Solomon award winning church reaches beyond the block

The moment you catch sight of the Temple of Greater Beth-EL (TGB), Solomon Award winner for “Best Design, Implementation and Operation: Video Equipment/System” at WFX (Worship Facilities Conference & Expo) 2008 in Houston, you know to expect the unexpected.

The massive Lincoln Memorial-inspired structure is an anomaly amongst the modest, single-story homes in this older, working class west Phoenix neighborhood, but the building is set so far back from the street that you could almost drive right by it. It’s a modesty that belies the global reach of the organization behind it, and the powerful technology inside.

Masque Sound Brings Out the Best in Celtic Woman

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

The Celtic Woman saga is as much of a fairy tale as one can imagine in today’s jaded, seen-it-all music industry. The trend-eschewing group’s eponymous debut album stayed atop Billboard’s World Music chart for an unprecedented 81 weeks, finally ceding that position only to its follow-up, A Christmas Celebration. With their third release, A New Journey, the group commanded the top three spots on the World charts and number 4 on the Billboard 200, with a record 95 consecutive weeks atop the charts. Their live PBS special has aired nearly 4000 times across the US since its March 2005 debut, and the group’s tours have sold out dates across three continents.
