Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

FRANKFURT, Germany – The pro audio industry is shifting its focus from Winter NAMM to ProLight + Sound/Musikmesse, set for March 24-27, 2010. Some exhibitors prefer to wait until the show itself before tipping their hands, but others are making pre-show announcements of what visitors can expect to see. Here's a preview.
Allen Heath is showing its iDR-16 3U MixRack and iLive-R72 rackmountable Control Surface, billed as a smaller, lighter and less expensive version of the larger touring iLive systems. The company will also be demonstrating the latest version of its iLive software v1.6, launching a new club installation product, the Xone:PB patchbay, Xone:XD40 headphones, and the European debut for the ZED-10 and ZED-10FX mini mixers introduced at Winter NAMM. (Hall 8.0 C22). Details at allen-heath.com (http://allen-heath.com) .

Are We Living in “Groundhog Day?”

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

For those of you who watched the Grammy Awards on Sunday night (and apparently there were more of you this year than any year since 2004), you may have had a feeling of déjà vu when you saw virtually the same group of stars that clustered together in 2009, 2008, etc. Does this perhaps remind you — at least a little — of the 1993 film Groundhog Day? You know, like Bill Murray’s character hearing “I Got You Babe” every morning?

Now, if you happen to want to hear the same song at the same time every day, that’s fine with us. But sometimes it’s fun to let the needle find a new groove.

Soundcraft Vi4 Installed at Teatro Campoamor

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

OVIEDO, Spain – Soundcraft's Spanish distributor, Earpro, recently installed a Vi4 at El Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo. Roberto Alonso, technical manager of the 120-year-old venue, credited ease of use as one of the reasons the venue chose the brand.
The Vi4 is very user-friendly, Alonso said. After 20 years using an analog mixer, the transition has been an easy one to make. In very little time sound engineers can gain the same confidence they had when using any traditional mixer.
